Purifiedpectinaseisamulti-componentpreparationhighlyeffectiveindepolymerizingplantpectinswithvaryingdegreesofesterification.Theproductcontainssubstantialhemicellulase,cellulase,pectinesteraseandxylanaseactivitieswhichtogetherwithpectinlyaseandpolygalacturonaseworksynergisticallytodigestplantcellwalltissues.WhenusedwithWorthingtonpurifiedcellulase,purifiedpectinasehasbeenfoundtobehighlysuccessfulforgeneratinggoodyieldsofviableprotoplastsinseveralplantsystems,e.g.,corn,soybean,redbeet,sunflower,tomatoandcitrus.Ingeneral,aconcentrationrangeof0.1%to0.5%pectinase(withaccompanying0.5%to1.5%cellulase)usedat24°Cto37°Cforperiodsof1to16hourswillyieldgoodresults.
